Primitive Origins
Primitive Origins is Prong's debut release, a mini-album put out in 1987 on the short-lived Mr Bear Records. It sits in the crossover thrash corner of the American band's catalogue, and it arrived a year before their first full-length, Force Fed, in 1988. Tommy Victor and Michael Kirkland wrote all of the songs.
What makes it worth tracking down is its place at the start of the story. Apart from "In My Veins", every track stayed exclusive to this record. That one was later re-recorded for a John Peel session on the BBC and released on The Peel Sessions. The British label Southern Records eventually reissued the mini-album, which gave it a second life beyond its original small-label run.
