Time arrived in October 1995 on Warner Bros. Records, and it is one of the least typical records in Fleetwood Mac's catalogue. Country singer Bekka Bramlett, daughter of Delaney and Bonnie, joined the band, as did Dave Mason, formerly of Traffic. It followed Behind the Mask as the second album made after Lindsey Buckingham left in 1987, though he does sing backing vocals on one track. Stevie Nicks does not appear at all, which hadn't happened on a Fleetwood Mac record since Heroes Are Hard to Find in 1974.

Critics were unkind and the album sold poorly, missing the US chart and reaching number 47 in the UK. It still matters to the band's story. It was the last studio album with Christine McVie as a full member, and the group split soon afterwards, before Nicks and Buckingham returned for The Dance. It is worth hearing as a curious footnote to the band's long history.
