English Rose
English Rose is a Fleetwood Mac compilation put together for the American market and released by Epic in 1968. It gathers six tracks from the UK album Mr. Wonderful, three non-album single sides, and two songs, "One Sunny Day" and "Without You", that had not yet appeared on the UK version of Then Play On. It also includes "Something Inside of Me", a previously unreleased track.
It belongs to the band's early blues rock days, when they were still the Fleetwood Mac of Peter Green's era, and it turned up a few months before The Pious Bird of Good Omen, with which it shares four songs. For listeners, it's a handy snapshot of the group in transition, with a preview of Then Play On. Then there's the cover, which shows Mick Fleetwood in drag, something he put down to a schoolboy pleasure in shocking people.
