The Light at the End of the World
The Light at the End of the World is the sixth studio album by English doom metal band My Dying Bride, released on 8 November 1999 through Globus Music. It follows the more experimental 34.788%…Complete and steers back towards the band's traditional doom sound and the style of lyrics that suited it. Growled vocals return too, the first on a My Dying Bride release since The Sexuality of Bereavement in 1994, though Aaron Stainthorpe sings with a changed approach and a wider range.
It is also an album of changes behind the scenes. Calvin Robertshaw had left, so Andrew Craighan recorded all the guitar parts, leaving him and Stainthorpe as the only founding members. Hamish Glencross soon joined as permanent guitarist. Jonny Maudling of Bal-Sagoth played keyboards, and Shaun Steels made his first appearance on drums, staying until 2006. A good one for fans who missed the band's heavier side.
