Meisterwerk 1
Meisterwerk 1 is a compilation from English doom metal band My Dying Bride, released on Peaceville in November 2000. It gathers tracks from their albums alongside rarer recordings, which makes it a handy way into a band whose sound sits between death-doom and gothic metal.
It arrived after The Light at the End of the World (1999) and shortly before The Dreadful Hours (2001), so it catches the group in the middle of their career. A companion volume, Meisterwerk 2, followed, and the pair sit among the band's handful of compilations, which also include Trinity from 1995. For anyone who wants the rarities in one place, or a guided tour of the band's slow, sorrowful style, this is a sensible place to begin.
