Like Gods of the Sun
Like Gods of the Sun is the fourth studio album by English doom metal band My Dying Bride, released in October 1996. It follows The Angel and the Dark River in sticking to entirely clean vocals, and it marks the final appearance of drummer Rick Miah and of Martin Powell on keyboards and violin, both of whom left the band in 1997.
Powell's strings are central to the record. "For My Fallen Angel" is a purely orchestral piece of violin and synth, carrying an extract from Shakespeare's Venus and Adonis. "For You" was given a video, and "A Kiss to Remember" has remained a regular in the live set. Singer Aaron Stainthorpe has said many times that this is his favourite of the band's albums. Later editions added remixes, including a trip-hop-flavoured "Portishell Mix" nodding to his fondness for Portishead. In 2011 it earned an IMPALA gold certification for European sales.
