Evinta
Evinta is My Dying Bride's 2011 album, released in May 2011 on Moon Records. It sits between For Lies I Sire and A Map of All Our Failures, but it is no ordinary follow-up. Instead of a fresh set of doom songs, it takes older themes and riffs from the band's catalogue and rewrites them for classical instruments in place of the usual metal line-up.
Jonny Maudling, songwriter and keyboard player with Kull and Bal-Sagoth, wrote and arranged new vocals and music based on the band's key works. The result sits somewhere between a studio album and a remix album, and its neoclassical and dark wave leanings give familiar material a very different colour. It is worth hearing if you know the band's heavier records well and would like to see how their melodies hold up without the guitars.
