The Cult's self-titled sixth studio album came out in November 1994, on Virgin. It sits at a turning point for the English rock band. It was their last record before they split in the spring of 1995, and it was the final album in their US deal with Sire. Fans then waited until 2001's Beyond Good and Evil for anything new.

It is a hard rock record, and the second time the band worked with producer Bob Rock. That follows Sonic Temple in 1989 and Ceremony in 1991 in their discography, so it makes a natural companion to the albums that came before it. The sleeve is memorable too, with a Manx Loaghtan black sheep on the front. For anyone tracing how the group's first chapter ended, this is the place to start.
