Pure Cult: The Singles 1984–1995
Pure Cult: The Singles 1984–1995 is a compilation from The Cult, released in 2000 on Beggars Banquet. It is the reissue of the band's first greatest hits collection, which first appeared in 1993 under the longer title Pure Cult: for Rockers, Ravers, Lovers, and Sinners. The new title and extended date range reflect the singles the band released up to 1995.
It gathers the singles from the period between Dreamtime in 1984 and the self-titled album of 1994, a stretch that takes in Love, Electric, Sonic Temple and Ceremony. That means it follows the band from their gothic rock beginnings into their harder, heavier sound, making it a handy way into the catalogue before Beyond Good and Evil arrived in 2001.
