The Best of Black Sabbath

Released5 June 2000
Popularity25.0

The Best of Black Sabbath is a 32-track compilation that runs in chronological order through the band's first 11 studio albums, from 1970 to 1983. It came out in June 2000 on a double CD, with quadruple LP and double cassette editions too. It is not an official Black Sabbath release, since the label had no tie to the band or their management, and it is one of roughly half a dozen compilations to share the title.

The selection leans on the early years. Each album from the debut through Sabotage gets between three and six songs, while Ozzy Osbourne's last two records, Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die!, get one and two. Ronnie James Dio's era is marked by the title track of Heaven and Hell and a song from The Mob Rules, and the set closes with a track from Ian Gillan's lone album, Born Again. Later singers are left out.
