Album
TYR
TYR is Black Sabbath's fifteenth studio album, released in the UK on 20 August 1990 through I.R.S. Records. It followed Headless Cross (1989) and came before Dehumanizer (1992). The title, written in runes on the sleeve, and several song titles draw on Norse mythology, so plenty of listeners took it for a concept album.
Bassist Neil Murray later put that idea to rest, saying that very little of the record actually deals with mythology and that it was never planned as a concept work. It is best heard as a heavy metal album of loosely linked songs. A remaster arrived in 2024 as part of the Anno Domini 1989-1995 box set, the first official reissue, and was released separately on CD and vinyl that November.
