October Rust
October Rust is the fourth studio album by the American gothic metal band Type O Negative, released on 20 August 1996 by Roadrunner Records. It follows Bloody Kisses and comes before World Coming Down. It was the first record to credit Johnny Kelly as drummer, though programmed drums are also used throughout.
The band leans towards ballads here and away from the doom metal heaviness of the albums either side of it. There is a cover of Neil Young and Crazy Horse's "Cinnamon Girl", and a sense of humour runs through the record. It opens with "Bad Ground", 38 seconds of buzzing meant to sound like badly plugged leads, and the album is framed by spoken-word skits that play down the whole project. Abrupt endings and sudden segues on "Green Man", "Red Water" and "Haunted" add to its offbeat character.
