Severed Survival is the debut album from American death metal band Autopsy, released on 24 April 1989 through Peaceville. It arrived after two demos, Demo 87 and Critical Madness, and opens a studio discography that runs through Mental Funeral in 1991 and Acts of the Unspeakable in 1992, and on to the band's more recent records.

The sound draws on Bay Area thrash and the new death metal coming out of Florida, with strands of doom metal woven in. Lyrically it deals in death and gore. It is regarded as one of the first death metal albums and one of the genre's most important releases, helping to lay the groundwork for death metal itself and for its death-doom offshoot. If you want to hear where those sounds start to take shape, this is the place to begin.
