Doctrine

Doctrine is the sixth studio album by Dutch death metal band Pestilence, released on 24 April 2011 through Mascot Records. It followed Resurrection Macabre, the record that marked the band's return, and was the second album by the reformed line-up. Two new players joined for it: Yuma van Eekelen, and bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling, who had already been part of the band in the Spheres era.

What stands out is the low-end experiment. Mameli and Uterwijk play 8-string guitars in standard tuning, while Thesseling uses a 7-string fretless bass tuned to F#, giving the technical death metal a notably deep foundation. The album was recorded and mixed at Woodshed Studio in southern Germany with engineer Victor "V.Santura" Bullok, and Marko Saarelainen designed the artwork. It is worth hearing for anyone curious how far Pestilence pushed their sound after returning.
