Spheres

Spheres is the fourth album by the Dutch death metal band Pestilence, released on 3 May 1993 through Roadrunner Records. It stands apart from the group's earlier records by pushing towards a more progressive sound, with guitar synthesizers and touches of jazz woven into the technical death metal framework.

It also marks the end of a chapter, as it was the band's last album before a hiatus that ran from 1994 to 2008. Reception was largely positive. Decibel praised its ear-candy at every turn and the superb basswork, though the drumming of Marco Foddis was seen as poorly suited to the range of styles on offer. Mameli later began to criticise the record himself. It remains a fascinating listen for anyone curious about death metal at its most adventurous.
