Moment of Glory
Moment of Glory finds the German hard rockers Scorpions teaming up with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and it arrived in 2000 as a bold left turn after Eye II Eye. Rather than a set of brand-new songs, it mostly reworks material from the band's own catalogue with full orchestral arrangements, alongside classical interludes, a cover song and a new single, the title track.
The road to the finished record was a bumpy one. Andrew Powell was first asked to write the arrangements, and Michael Kamen was lined up next, but he left to work with Metallica on S&M. The Austrian arranger and conductor Christian Kolonovits finally took the job and proved the right fit. If you enjoy hearing familiar Scorpions songs given a grander, symphonic setting, this is the record to try. Released 8 August 2000.
