Down

Down are a heavy metal supergroup formed in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1991. The line-up draws on some of the city's best-known heavy bands: vocalist Phil Anselmo of Pantera and Superjoint Ritual, drummer Jimmy Bower of Eyehategod and Crowbar, guitarists Pepper Keenan of Corrosion of Conformity and Kirk Windstein of Crowbar, and bassist Pat Bruders, who has played with Goatwhore, Crowbar and Saint Vitus. Their sound sits across southern metal, stoner metal and sludge.

Their debut, NOLA, arrived in 1995, followed by Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow in 2002 and Over the Under in 2007. Two EPs, Down IV – Part I (September 2012) and Part II (May 2014), came after a stretch of writing that began in 2008. The band have paused twice along the way, and a new album, Volume V, has been announced for 20 November. Fans of Black Sabbath, Kyuss and Pantera will feel at home.
