Down IV, Part I: The Purple EP
Down IV, Part I: The Purple EP is the first EP from the American sludge metal band Down, released on 18 September 2012 on Down Records. It is often known simply by its colour-coded nickname, and it opens a planned series of EPs rather than standing as a full studio album.
It marks a change in the band's story. Pat Bruders plays bass for the first time here, following Rex Brown's departure in 2011, and it is the last Down release to feature guitarist Kirk Windstein, who left in 2013. A second EP followed in 2014, and in certain territories, mainly Japan, the two were combined as a single album called Down IV. For fans following the band between Down III: Over the Under and Volume V, it documents a line-up in transition.
