Killbox 13
Killbox 13 is Overkill's twelfth studio album, released on 25 March 2003 through Spitfire Records. It sits between Bloodletting and ReliXIV in the band's catalogue, and it is the first record to feature rhythm guitarist Derek Tailer. The title comes from the band's own counting: include the Overkill EP as their first release, or the covers album Coverkill, and this becomes their thirteenth. Bobby Ellsworth has pointed out that it is really only thirteenth for those who followed the band from the 1984 EP.
The sound blends groove metal and thrash, but what earned the album its warm reception was the way some songs went back to the raw, unpolished thrash of debut Feel the Fire. Overkill had drifted from that approach over the years, so hearing them revisit it makes this a rewarding listen for anyone who loved their early work.
