I Hear Black is Overkill's sixth studio album, released in March 1993 on Atlantic. It came after Horrorscope in 1991 and before W.F.O. in 1994, and it marked the arrival of drummer Tim Mallare, who played on an Overkill record for the first time here.

The big change is in the pace. Overkill, a thrash band at heart, eased back on the speed and leaned into a groove metal sound, favouring weight and heft over all-out velocity. If you know them mainly for their faster early records, this one shows a heavier, slower-burning side of the band, and it makes a useful point of comparison with what came before and after it in their long run of albums.
