Coverkill
Coverkill is a collection of cover versions from New Jersey thrash band Overkill, released on 26 October 1999 through CMC International Records. Rather than reworking their own material, the band turned to the artists who shaped them, taking in Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Kiss, Judas Priest, Jethro Tull, Ramones, Sex Pistols, the Dead Boys and Manowar.
It arrived in the same year as Necroshine, and it was the first Overkill release to feature guitarist Dave Linsk. That makes it a useful snapshot of a new line-up finding its feet. The song choices are the real draw: heavy metal pioneers sit beside punk and hard rock, and hearing them filtered through a thrash band shows how wide the roots of Overkill's sound run.
