Shadowlife
Shadowlife is the sixth studio album by the American band Dokken, released in April 1997 through CMC International Records. It arrived after the self-titled Dokken album of 1994 and Dysfunctional in 1995, and it follows the band's shift away from their 1980s heavy metal sound towards alternative rock, with a post-grunge flavour running through the material.
The record has a rough reputation. Critics and fans were unimpressed by the new direction, and it is often counted among the band's weaker efforts. Even so, it matters in the Dokken story, because it is the last studio album to feature original lead guitarist George Lynch. For anyone tracing how the group changed through the 1990s, or curious to hear a classic metal act tackling a very different sound, it makes a revealing listen.
