Power of the Night
Power of the Night is the second studio album by the American band Savatage, released on 15 April 1985 through Atlantic. It follows 1983's Sirens and sits between that debut and Fight for the Rock in 1986. Max Norman produced it, the same man who later worked on Megadeth's Countdown to Extinction. The record mixes heavy metal, power metal and speed metal in a traditional heavy metal frame.
There is a bit of backstage story here too. Atlantic had reservations about the sexual metaphors in "Hard for Love" and "Skull Session", and the idea of some outlets "banning" the album was also seen as a way to spur sales. It was bassist Keith Collins's last album with the band, with Jon and Criss Oliva fixing some of his parts for the final version. Johnny Lee Middleton took over the bass role in 1986.
