Japan Live ’94
Japan Live '94 is a live album by the American heavy metal band Savatage, released on 25 January 1995 on HiQ. It captures the final night of the short Handful of Rain tour, played in Kawasaki, Japan, on 12 November 1994. A VHS of the concert followed in Japan, and it later appeared in North America under the title Live in Japan.
What makes it worth hearing is Jon Oliva. He had stepped back from the band in 1992, yet here he plays a prominent part: an extended piano introduction to "Gutter Ballet", shared lead vocals with Zachary Stevens, and rhythm guitar on "Hall of the Mountain King". It was his first outing as a lead vocalist with the band in two years. Space limits kept four songs off the CD, including "Damien" and "Hall of the Mountain King", but the video carries the full show.
