From the Gutter to the Stage: The Best of Savatage 1981–1995
From the Gutter to the Stage: The Best of Savatage 1981–1995 is a compilation from the American heavy metal band, released on 2 December 1995 by Edel Records. It is one of five compilation albums in the group's discography, which also includes eleven studio albums, two live albums and three EPs.
The title's date range takes in the band's whole story up to that point, from the early 1980s through to the year Dead Winter Dead appeared. That span covers Sirens in 1983, the string of records that followed, including Hall of the Mountain King, Gutter Ballet and Streets: A Rock Opera, and the mid-nineties albums Edge of Thorns and Handful of Rain. For anyone wanting a overview of Savatage's first decade and a half in one place, it is a useful starting point.
