Album
Gutter Ballet
Gutter Ballet is the fifth studio album by the American heavy metal band Savatage, released in 1990 on Atlantic. It was the second record made with producer Paul O'Neill guiding the band, following Hall of the Mountain King in 1987. The music blends heavy metal with power, progressive and symphonic strands, and the label's catalogue also files it under rock.
In the band's story, it sits between the Hall of the Mountain King era and Streets: A Rock Opera, which followed in 1991. That makes it a useful record for hearing how Savatage were moving towards a more ambitious, orchestral-minded style. If you know the band mainly for their later concept work, it is well worth going back to hear where that grander approach took shape.
