Jar of Flies
Jar of Flies is the third EP from Alice in Chains, and the follow-up to the acoustic Sap from 1992. It came out in January 1994, arriving between the band's studio albums Dirt and the self-titled record that followed in 1995. The band produced it themselves, writing and recording the whole thing in a single week at London Bridge Studio in Seattle.
It is a quieter, more reflective side of the band, and it found a huge audience. It became the first EP to enter the Billboard 200 at number one, with more than 141,000 copies sold in its first week in the US. "No Excuses", "I Stay Away" and "Don't Follow" were sent to radio, and "I Stay Away" earned a Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance. The EP has since gone quadruple platinum in the US.
