From the Underground and Below
From the Underground and Below is Overkill's ninth studio album, released on 30 September 1997. It followed The Killing Kind from the previous year and came before Necroshine in 1999. The band are filed under both thrash and groove metal, and this record sits right in the stretch where those two sides of their sound overlapped.
Two cover versions were recorded during the sessions: the Sex Pistols' "No Feelings" and Deep Purple's "Space Truckin'". That pairing says a lot about the band's tastes. Singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth counts the album among his favourite Overkill records, which is a good reason for fans of their mid-nineties run to give it another spin. It was reissued alongside Necroshine in a box set in 2003.
