Host
Host is the seventh studio album by Paradise Lost, the British gothic metal band, and it came out in May 1999 on EMI. It follows One Second from 1997 and sits in the middle of a long run of studio records that began with Lost Paradise in 1990 and has carried on into the 2020s.
This is the record where the band's sound moves furthest from its metal beginnings. Its genres are listed as gothic rock and synth-pop, so expect electronics and a darker, more song-led approach rather than the heavy guitar weight of Draconian Times, which preceded One Second. It is worth hearing if you want to follow how far the group stretched its style before Believe in Nothing arrived in 2001.
