Album
Medusa
Medusa is Paradise Lost's fifteenth studio album, released on 1 September 2017 through Nuclear Blast. It arrived two years after The Plague Within and came before Obsidian in 2020, so it sits in the later stretch of a career that began with Lost Paradise in 1990. The British band are closely tied to gothic metal, but here the material is filed under doom metal and sludge metal.
That tells you much of what to expect: slow, heavy, weighty music from a group that has spent decades moving between styles and returning to the gloom that suits them. For anyone who knows the early records such as Gothic or Shades of God, Medusa is a useful way to hear where the band stood in the late 2010s.
