Drown in Darkness – The Early Demos
Drown in Darkness – The Early Demos is a compilation from British gothic metal band Paradise Lost, released in May 2009 through Century Media. It is their third compilation, and it gathers material from before their debut album, Lost Paradise, arrived in 1990.
The twelve tracks come from three demos. The first three are from the 1988 demo Paradise Lost, the next three from Frozen Illusion, and the final six from Plains of Desolation, both made in 1989. The collection is tagged as death metal, which shows how far the band's roots sit from the gothic sound they later became known for. A trailer for the release featured interviews with several of the band members behind the demos, who looked back on the recording and release of the tapes. It is one for listeners curious about where the band started.
