Last Rights
Last Rights is the seventh studio album by Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy, released in March 1992. It was the last record the group put out through Nettwerk, and it follows Too Dark Park in their run of studio albums. Making it was a difficult business, with tension inside the band and threatened litigation from outside. A tour followed, and it would be their last for twelve years.
The record pulls between two extremes. There are dense, cacophonous walls of sound and an eleven-minute track built almost entirely from manipulated, distorted samples, set against gloomy melodies and unexpected softness, including the band's first ballad. It was well received, and Alternative Press later named it among the best albums of the 1990s. It became their first release to chart on the Billboard 200 and produced two singles: "Inquisition" in 1993 and "Left Handshake", issued as "Track 10" in 2000.
