Too Dark Park
Too Dark Park is Skinny Puppy's sixth studio album, released on 30 October 1990 through Nettwerk. It follows Rabies, whose sound was shaped by Ministry's influence, and here the band pull back from that direction. Guitar still runs through the record, but the mood is more chaotic and electronic. It was recorded spontaneously at Mushroom Studios and mixed at Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver. Dave "Rave" Ogilvie and Greg Reely play guitar on "Nature's Revenge" and "T.F.W.O.".
The album's themes are the collapse of society through the destruction of nature, drug addiction and psychological trouble. The artwork, by Vancouver artist Jim Cummins, draws on cosmic horror such as the Cthulhu Mythos and introduces the band's "SP" logo. Critics have praised its haunting electronic riffs and its use of sampling, though its disturbing character may be too much for some listeners. "Tormentor" and "Spasmolytic" were issued as singles.
