VIVIsectVI
VIVIsectVI, pronounced "vivisect six", is the fourth studio album by Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy. It came out in September 1988 on Nettwerk, following Cleanse Fold and Manipulate the year before and preceding Rabies in 1989. Its subject matter was grim, taking in animal rights, chemical warfare and environmental waste, yet it was well received.
The record refines the band's harsh, mechanical, sample-heavy sound, and several critics have called it their finest work. It produced two singles: "Censor", which appears on the album as "Dogshit", and "Testure", the only Skinny Puppy song to reach Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. A theatrical tour followed, with Nine Inch Nails as the opening act. Over time the album has come to be regarded as a landmark of industrial and electronic music.
