Sodom are a German thrash metal band from Gelsenkirchen, with bassist and vocalist Tom Angelripper (Thomas Such) the one constant through every line-up change. The structured data dates their start to 1981, while the introduction says 1982, so I'll go with the year the introduction gives. They are counted among the "Big Four" of Teutonic thrash alongside Kreator, Destruction and Tankard, and they influenced the German black metal scene. Their sound blends thrash with death metal, and it is rawer and more Venom-blackened than that of their peers.

Agent Orange (1989) is the record to start with. It was one of the first thrash albums to enter the German charts, reaching number 36. Obsessed by Cruelty, Persecution Mania and Code Red are also well loved. The band has since released sixteen studio albums, most recently The Arsonist on 27 June 2025, with Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik back on guitar.
