Celtic Frost

Celtic Frost were a Swiss extreme metal band from Zürich. Thomas Gabriel Fischer and bassist Martin Eric Ain formed the group in June 1984 after ending their earlier band, Hellhammer. Morbid Tales arrived later that year, followed by To Mega Therion in 1985 and the experimental Into the Pandemonium in 1987. All three proved influential on death, black and doom metal.

Their sound drew on thrash and early black metal, with gothic rock and hardcore punk in the mix alongside Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Venom. Cold Lake (1988) changed style under a new line-up, and the band have since disowned it. After Vanity / Nemesis in 1990 they split, then reformed in 2001 and made Monotheist (2006), a slower, heavier record in a doom vein. Fischer left in 2008 to form Triptykon, ending the band for good.
