Tapping the Vein
Tapping the Vein is the fifth studio album by German thrash metallers Sodom, released in 1992. It was recorded with producer Harris Johns at Dierks Studios in Cologne, and it introduced guitarist Andy Brings on record. It also turned out to be the last Sodom album with founding drummer Chris Witchhunter.
After the band's previous records, this one swings back towards heavy, fast playing, with noticeable death metal touches creeping into the thrash. Critics responded warmly, praising the way Sodom freshened up their sound. The album reached number 56 on the German chart, and the band took it on tour across Europe and Japan that year. It's a useful marker in their story, catching a line-up in transition and a band updating its attack.
