The Saw Is the Law
The Saw Is the Law is an EP by Sodom, the German thrash metal band, released in 1991 on Steamhammer. It is one of only two EPs in a discography that otherwise runs to a long line of studio albums, live records, compilations and demos.
It arrived between Better Off Dead (1990) and Tapping the Vein (1992), so it belongs to the stretch when Sodom were already established as one of the big three of Teutonic thrash, alongside Kreator and Destruction. While their rivals developed a sound that fed into death metal, Sodom's rawer approach left its mark on many of the black metal bands that emerged in the late 1980s and 1990s. For anyone tracing that story, this short release is a useful stop along the way.
