Eternal Devastation
Eternal Devastation is the second full-length album by the German thrash metal band Destruction, released on 12 July 1986 through Metal Blade Records. It followed the Sentence of Death EP and the debut Infernal Overkill, and it arrived with the band still rooted in the speed metal and proto-black metal leanings of that earlier material.
What makes it worth hearing is the shift under way. Destruction were starting to move towards a more contemporary thrash sound, and the record is regarded as an essential release in the genre. It is also the last studio album with drummer Thomas "Tommy" Sandmann, who left later in 1986 and was replaced by Oliver "Olli" Kaiser. Next in the band's story came Release From Agony in 1987. Eternal Devastation was reissued on 12 June 2017.
