XXX
XXX is ZZ Top's thirteenth studio album, released on 28 September 1999 through RCA. Its title marks the band's thirtieth anniversary, the Roman numerals standing in for three decades of the Texas trio. The record also includes some live material alongside the studio work, which makes it a slightly unusual entry in their catalogue.
It follows Antenna (1994) and Rhythmeen (1996), and comes a few years before Mescalero in 2003. The sound stays rooted in hard rock, blues rock and boogie, the territory the band has worked since its early albums like Tres Hombres and Fandango!. For anyone who knows the Eliminator years, it is a chance to hear the band returning to its grittier, blues-driven side as the century closed.
