Mescalero is the fourteenth studio album by ZZ Top, released in September 2003. It was the last record the band made for RCA Records, and it sits between XXX in 1999 and La futura in 2012 in their studio catalogue. Billy Gibbons produced it, and the sessions took place at Foam Box Recordings in Houston.

The band keep their footing in blues rock here, but they wander a little further afield than you might expect, taking in country and Tejano along the way. That nod to the sounds of their home state makes it a record worth hearing if you only know the Texas trio through their boogie and hard rock side. It shows a band happy to stretch out while staying recognisably themselves.
