Album
Eliminator
Eliminator is ZZ Top's eighth studio album, released on 23 March 1983 through Warner Bros. Records. It followed El Loco in 1981, when Billy Gibbons had begun nudging the band's boogie and blues rock towards the new wave sounds of the day. Here he pushed further, quickening the tempo and bringing in synthesizers and drum machines for a tighter record with a steady, driving beat. Linden Hudson worked with Gibbons in Texas on the songs, while producer Bill Ham and engineer Terry Manning edited the material in Memphis.
It became the band's biggest seller, reaching 11 million copies and US diamond certification. "Gimme All Your Lovin'", "Sharp Dressed Man" and "Legs" were all MTV regulars, and the customised 1933 Ford coupe on the cover starred in the videos, winning over a younger crowd. "Legs" took the MTV Video Music Award for Best Group. Rolling Stone placed the album at number 398 on its 500 greatest list, and it appears in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
