The Art of Survival

The Art of Survival is Bush's ninth studio album, released on 7 October 2022 through BMG. It follows 2020's The Kingdom and pushes further down the same road: big, riff-led rock that leans harder into metal than anything the British band had done before, with little left of the alternative rock leanings that shaped their earlier records.

Gavin Rossdale, the band's frontman and main songwriter, built the record around humanity's strides in the face of hardship. The lyrics take in the overturning of Roe v. Wade, climate change, the pandemic and identity politics. Lead single "More Than Machines" reached No. 2 on the US Mainstream Rock chart, and "Heavy Is the Ocean" and "All Things Must Change" followed. If you only know Bush from the Sixteen Stone days, this is a weightier, more aggressive side of the band.
