Monster Magnet
Monster Magnet formed in Red Bank, New Jersey, in 1989, started by Dave Wyndorf on vocals and guitar, guitarist John McBain and Tim Cronin on vocals and drums. Wyndorf is the only member to have stayed throughout a run of line-up changes. The band sit alongside Masters of Reality, Kyuss, Fu Manchu and Sleep as pioneers of stoner rock, and are credited with helping to shape and popularise the genre.
Their sound blends hard rock with heavy psych, space rock and stoner metal. Spine of God arrived in 1991, followed by Dopes to Infinity in 1995, and Powertrip in 1998, which is the record most listeners start with. God Says No followed in 2000. The 1990s brought their best-known songs, "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" and "Space Lord". More albums have followed, up to A Better Dystopia in 2021.
