Spine of God
Spine of God is the debut studio album by the American band Monster Magnet, released on 6 December 1991 through Go Get Organized. It arrived first in Europe, with a US release following the next year. Its mix of psychedelic rock, space rock, hard rock and stoner metal makes it one of the earliest examples of the stoner rock sound that took shape in the 1990s.
It sold poorly at first, but critics rated it, and in time it came to be seen as a major influence on stoner rock bands. "Medicine" was issued as a single, with a music video. It is the starting point for a catalogue that runs on to Superjudge in 1993 and beyond, and it is well worth hearing for anyone who wants to know where the genre began.
