a girl a bottle a boat
Released in 2017 on Columbia, a girl a bottle a boat is Train's tenth studio album. It arrived just after Train Does Led Zeppelin II, the band's 2016 full-album tribute, and it marks a turning point in the line-up. Founding guitarist Jimmy Stafford had left, which made vocalist Pat Monahan the only original member still in the band.
It is also the last Train record to feature drummer Drew Shoals. For listeners who followed the band from the 1990s through to the Drops of Jupiter years, it shows a long-running group carrying on in a slimmed-down form, with Monahan at the front. It is worth hearing as a snapshot of that moment, before the band's later albums AM Gold in 2022 and Mad Dog in the Fog in 2026.
