Triple Threat
Triple Threat is a box set from the Canadian thrash metal band Annihilator, released on 27 January 2017 through AVALON. It pairs a studio album of acoustic versions of songs from across the band's career with a live CD recorded at the Bang Your Head!!! festival in 2016. Special editions add a live DVD or Blu-ray.
It's an unusual entry in a catalogue where Jeff Waters is known for recording all the guitar and bass on the studio albums himself. Here, five musicians from different backgrounds play together in one room, aiming to sound like a single band, completely live. Waters called it one of the coolest things he has done in his long career. For fans who know the thrash originals well, hearing the songs stripped back alongside a full-volume festival set makes for a rewarding comparison.
