Two Colours was Feeder's first release on The Echo Label, an EP that came out in September 1995, before the band had made their debut album Polythene in 1997. It appeared on 7" and CD, and the grunge-leaning songs on it were sold mainly at the band's early gigs rather than in the shops.

The title comes from a practical limit: the band and label could only afford to print the sleeve in two colours. Only around 1,500 CDs and 1,000 7" copies were made, which is why it's now a hard one to track down, often fetching over £40 at auction and occasionally much more. Both tracks, "Chicken On A Bone" among them, were later re-recorded and turned up as b-sides on the "Cement" single. A follow-up, Two Colours 2, was planned in 1996 but never released.
