King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime
King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime is Faith No More's fifth studio album, released on 13 March 1995. It followed Angel Dust and was the first record made without guitarist Jim Martin. Trey Spruance, who played alongside singer Mike Patton in Mr. Bungle, stepped in for the sessions. Work on it was troubled by a car accident and by keyboard player Roddy Bottum's absence, after the deaths of his father and Kurt Cobain.
The music hops between styles, which Rolling Stone summed up as a "genre shuffle". That range divided critics at the time, but the album has gained ground since and turns up on several best-of lists. "Digging the Grave", "Ricochet" and "Evidence" were the singles, and it reached number 31 in the United States. It is a restless, unpredictable listen from a band that rarely stood still.
