The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed

Released25 August 2003
Popularity19.1

The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed came out on 25 August 2003 on Gut Records. It is a hard rock album, and its title nods to the 1969 horror film Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed. It was the band's first new studio release since they split in 1997, and it followed their reformation in 2001.

The line-up that reformed was the one behind Earth vs. The Wildhearts in 1993, but bassist Danny McCormack dropped out and entered rehab just before recording began. Ginger, the group's leader, played bass instead, though McCormack did appear on some songs that ended up as B-sides. Three singles reached the UK charts: "Vanilla Radio", "So into You" and "Top of the World". Their B-sides later turned up on the compilations Riff After Riff After Motherfucking Riff and Coupled With, which makes this a good record to start with if you want to follow the band's comeback.
